Suffering Bastard

The Suffering Bastard cocktail uses both bourbon and gin. Born in Cairo at the Shepheard's Hotel, it was originally concocted as a hangover cure for troops fighting in North Africa.

3⁄4 oz / 19 ml 1 1⁄8 oz / 28 ml 1 1⁄2 oz / 38 ml 2 1⁄4 oz / 56 ml	Fresh Lime Juice
1⁄4 oz / 6 ml 1⁄2 oz / 9 ml 1⁄2 oz / 13 ml 3⁄4 oz / 19 ml	Rich Demerara Syrup
2 to 3 dashes 3 to 4 1⁄2 dashes 4 to 6 dashes 6 to 9 dashes	Bitters	Angostura Aromatic Bitters
3 oz / 75 ml 4 1⁄2 oz / 113 ml 6 oz / 150 ml 9 oz / 225 ml	Ginger Beer	Fever Tree

• Method: Shaken
• Pour: Double Strain
• Glassware:
  • High Ball
  • On the rocks
• Garnish: Mint sprig and orange slice
• Special Prep: Pour the ginger beer into the glass while pouring the cocktail.
