About

This site was created in 2001 when I moved to London from New York City and wanted to keep a record of recipes from our families. Most of them are from our childhood. It hasn’t really grown very quickly. But whenever we come across a new classic, we try to add it. Mostly us in London and my brother in New York.

We hope you like them.

Notes about conventions

We try to be consistent with our measures across the site; however, we do use abbreviations for measures. Here is a list of most of them.

Abbreviation Definition
T tablespoon
t teaspoon *.yaml
c cup
lb(s) pound(s)
oz(s) ounce(s)
g gram
kg kilogram
ml millilitre
l litre

Since we are trying to provide information for both the USA and the UK, we are using both English (USA) and Metric (UK+) measures. We also try to use both the USA and UK names for ingredients and temperatures, for example “green onions/scallions” and “350F/180C”. However, we often forget, so please forgive any misses.

How is this site built

This is the third major revision of the site. This version is produced by Jekyll with a few helper perl scripts for pre and post processing as well as the search function. It was moved from a cgi based sqlite3 database system, but that proved hard for people to update, so we moved to Jekyll, which is text and markdown based.
